On Tuesday, I was invited to an event for women entrepreneurs at the Neues Schloss in Stuttgart. At the job speed dating I and 15 other role-model women entrepreneurs spoke about ideas, insights and experiences relating to founding a business and female leadership. Under the motto #findedeineberufung, interested female students, founders and women keen on self-employment asked us questions about choosing a profession, career paths and entrepreneurship.
Dare to do it! Women and starting a business
“Where do I actually want to go? Where and how do I want to work?” I asked myself those same questions back then. Self-employment is a major step, one that takes a lot of courage. I am glad I dared to take it. Starting businesses as women is therefore a subject close to my heart. Studies show that women tend to underestimate their own abilities. They start businesses more cautiously, start smaller—if they start at all. At 7.6%, women’s self-employment rate is only half that of men’s.
Women entrepreneurs need greater visibility
As a role-model entrepreneur in the initiative FRAUENunternehmen of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs, I want to encourage women to start businesses and support them along the way. Often simply sharing your own experiences and being a role model helps—there are still too few entrepreneurial role models for young women. We women entrepreneurs need to become more visible in society and show girls and women that they can succeed too. This makes projects such as job speed dating, which enable young women and successful founders to talk to one another, all the more important.
Coaching for women entrepreneurs
Lilit therefore also offers practical support to women leaders. On the path to their own businesses, as well as in everyday professional life, women still face many barriers in a male-dominated business world. In our training programmes on female leadership, pitch presentations and debate, women in leadership learn to project confidence and earn respect. So that more women reach the top in future!
