“The Lilit internship helped me develop personally and professionally”

Around six months ago, Niklas completed a student internship at Lilit Kommunikation in Mainz. In conversation with Marietta, he looks back on his time there.

Marietta (M): Hello, Niklas. It’s been a while. How are you?

Niklas (N): Hi Marietta, I’m well, thanks for asking. I’m back in Heidelberg for my studies. Next summer semester, I’ll be studying in Spain for six months.

M: You interned at Lilit Kommunikation for two months, from mid-August to early October 2019. Looking back, what is your personal assessment?

N: Well, I gained insight into many different areas of a company and collected lots of new experiences and impressions. To me, the broad and varied range of responsibilities was a major plus. During those eight weeks I was not confined to one area; I could work as an all-rounder and thoroughly develop my administrative, creative and communication skills, among others. Much of what I had hoped for at the start of my internship ended up becoming reality.

M: What did you enjoy most?

N: Generally, dealing with all the large and small daily tasks, always with the aim of moving Lilit Kommunikation forward step by step. You also made a real effort to support me and were there with advice and practical help throughout the two months. As I said in my first interview, the personal, direct connection is simply a huge advantage. It was also wonderful to accompany you to seminars whenever possible. As a “silent observer”, I could experience the training from a completely different perspective.

M: What did you learn during your internship that you want to, or can, continue applying in everyday life?

N: Working in a structured, efficient and results-oriented way towards a deadline and a goal, while regularly checking in and coordinating with the team. Of course, you learn this at university too, but doing it out in the real world is different.

M: Would you recommend a Lilit Kommunikation internship to other students?

N: I gained a realistic insight into what it means to earn a living as a coach: which daily moments are fulfilling and which are disappointing? Looking back, I would advise anyone interested to intern for longer than two months, which was my university’s required duration. Otherwise the internship ends just as you finally settle in. Personally, I would recommend it to anyone wanting practical professional experience in a pleasant, close-knit working atmosphere, with the chance to contribute their own ideas and expertise under professional guidance.
